I have been teaching in the Jefferson County Public School system in Louisville, Kentucky for 30 years. I've taught the third, fourth, and fifth grades, but am now a Library Media Specialist. I am an active member of the Kentucky Association of School Librarians Kentucky Bluegrass Commitee.
My teaching style has students doing more of the work than me. I love for my students to talk with one another about their reading as well as working together to debate issues, revise their writing, and any other activities we work on in class. I'm okay if students struggle with their work because I think more learning takes place when things don't come easy.
I was a top ten finalist in the Kentucky Teacher of the Year Award in 2022. I was awarded the LG&E/KU ExCel Award in 2023. I am the president of our local JCASL school librarians association,
I have been teaching for 30 years. I have earned a Master's Degree +30 hours in Elementary Counseling, a Master's Degree in Library Science as well as a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education.
I love to read and write. My husband says that I will never read all of the books I own. I can't help by buying new ones!! I hope that I'm able to pass this love for reading and writing on to ALL of my students. That is my ultimate teaching goal!
