I've taught Kindergarten ESL up to 12th grade AP Literature, and every aspect of reading and writing in between. I joined the instructional coach cult for awhile, sharing resources with my fellow teachers. Now I'm teaching full time in schools with limited curriculum. Each time I make something from scratch, I share it!
Learning is an experience. Everything else is just information. Students will learn more from doing the work themselves, while the teacher acts as a facilitator and guide along the way. I believe in students setting their own goals, tracking their own progress, and helping each other succeed. Above all else, I think teaching and learning should be fun. I try to integrate lots of hands-on activities and end every unit with a review game. Class goes fast when students (and their teachers) are having fun.
I'm a Classroom Fund Grant Recipient, 2011. I'm also a member of TCTELA (Texas Council for Teachers of ELA). I attended the ASCD (Association of Supervision and Curriculum Design) conference in Los Angeles in 2014 and have been an ELA Curriculum Writer since 2013.In 2018 I earned National Board Certification for English Language Arts: Adolescence and Young Adulthood. I'm also a published author and member of SCBWI (Society for Children's Book Writers and Illustrators).
