I started my teaching career teaching a 1st/2nd multiage classroom on the Navajo Reservation. I then moved to Denver, Colorado and have taught grades first-fifth for the past 27 years. The past 16 years have been teaching at a 2nd grade level. I teach in a school with a wonderfully diverse student body with many different languages, races, religions, and ability levels. My lessons always have English language learners in mind and supports for students with both IEP's and ALP's. .
I have a teaching style that is focused on fun and engagement as my best way to teach the Common Core State Standards. My classroom is focused on a supportive, kind classroom environment where students encourage each other to learn as much as they can and do their best.
I have received distinguished teacher ratings for the past 10 years. During the pandemic, I received an award for "Excellence in Technology" for my work bringing online learning to students throughout the year and a half of quarantine. My joy for being back in the classroom is beyond words.
I have a Bachelor's of Education in Elementary Education from Metropolitan State College of Denver and a Masters of Education from Grand Canyon University in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.
I am also a mother of two boys ages 10 and 13. We love to spend as much time outdoors as possible as we bike, camp and hike as a family. We spend much of our spare time in the Rocky Mountains. Our family also has been studying Martial Arts for several years now and our family recently achieved Black Belt status.
