I am a third year art teacher at Magnolia West High School. Upon receiving the job, I took on the challenge of making my classroom a place where my students could seek refuge, have fun, and receive an art education that would challenge them, as well as build confidence within them. I am committed to my students, focusing on instilling and sharing a passion and knowledge for art with them.
My teaching style is one that must encompass a vast range of students. My classroom is filled with kids from 9th to 12th grade, some who just need the credit and some who want to make art their career. When I gained my teaching position, I knew I wanted to bring change and greatness to the department. I took on that challenge one student at a time. Attempting to enlighten my students on the things that are possible with art. While there, I have encouraged students to enter competitions to gain the experience of competing with their art. Many of my students have won prestigious awards through various competitions, and in the last two years I had two students sell their art for $25,000 each. It’s an incredible thing to see that moment happen, and to know what they have found in themselves simply through art.
