I've been incorporating baking into my Kindergarten class for over 10 years! I can't think of any better way to integrate curricular expectations, foster independence and have the best day with little learners. Colleagues have field-tested these recipes with early primary classes and special needs classes, with great success.
In my full-day kindergarten program, I am replacing what is good with what is better! Baking and writing procedural letters home each month is one thing I have kept over the years, and it's what 'the big kids' remember from kindergarten a decade later.
Yet to be added
I graduated from Brock University in St.Catharine's, Ontario, with an undergraduate degree in Child Studies, earned concurrently with a Bachelor of Education. My interest in primary education led me to additional qualifications in Reading and Math, but pure Kindergarten has remained my first love! It's been wonderful to transition to Ontario's full-day program and also instruct the Kindergarten Part 1 AQ with ETFO.
When I'm not at school, my 'real' name is Lissa Simms, and I live with my family in Simcoe County. We enjoy all four of Ontario's wonderful seasons, unless we're inside complaining about the extreme cold/extreme heat! You'll find me reading, running, baking, mommy-ing, and trying hard to take off my teacher hat outside school! :)
