With 28 years of teaching experience (Spanish and numerous science courses) and nine years of substitute teaching, as well as having been the director of an alternative school, a virtual school, an ESOL department, and my church Sunday School, it seems I have taught just about everything. I have even given private piano lessons and have "served" as a volleyball coach and official. That's just what happens when you live and work in a small, rural community. : )
My teaching style varies according the to the make up of my classroom, but one thing stays consistent: I work hard to make my lessons highly engaging and comprehensible, all while creating a low-stress environment, whether it be in the classroom or online.
In 2009, I was named McPherson College's Dayton Rothrock Teacher Education Alumni Fellow for being a service-oriented educator who effectively blends the art and science of teaching. In 2022, I was my school district's nominee for Kansas Teacher of the Year. Being told "thank you" by former students, some of whom are now teachers, also warms my heart.
I have a BA in Spanish and biology from McPherson College, McPherson, KS and an MS in Developmental Genetics from Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, OK. As a 28-year veteran teacher, I also have numerous hours of continuous education in language instruction.
I love to write and have two middle-grade fiction books, Curandera Girl and Bop Sock, that are soon to be self-published.
