Description

First Grade Thanksgiving Math Centers

This Thanksgiving themed math packet is perfect for helping your first grade students master number bonds, facts through ten, addition and subtraction, and word problems during November.

*This packet is included in my First Grade Year Long Math Centers Bundle.

What's included:
Nutty Number Bonds - Students will find the whole number using black and brown counters and an acorn themed ten frame work mat. They will then record their work and complete two addition sentences.

Nutty Ways to Make Ten - Students will use a nut themed ten frame and counters to find all the ways to make ten.

Turkey Number Bond Craft - Students will make a turkey number bond craft. The number bond will relate to the color of the turkey's feathers.

Turkey Missing Part Number Bonds - Students will find the missing part of a number bond using the whole and a part. A work mat is included if the students need it for extra support.

Hop on or Hop Back to Subtract - Students will decide if it is more efficient to hop on or hop back on the number path while subtracting. A number line version has also been provided. This activity also comes with an option to make a frog themed turkey page topper.

Thanksgiving Word Problems - Students will solve word problems by drawing a picture, using a number bond, and answering the question in a full sentence.

All math centers come with teacher directions, student directions, and Thanksgiving themed math center cards.

*This packet compliments the EngageNY and Eureka Math programs for first grade.

Standards

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
Use addition and subtraction within 20 to solve word problems involving situations of adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart, and comparing, with unknowns in all positions, e.g., by using objects, drawings, and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.
Solve word problems that call for addition of three whole numbers whose sum is less than or equal to 20, e.g., by using objects, drawings, and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.
Apply properties of operations as strategies to add and subtract. If 8 + 3 = 11 is known, then 3 + 8 = 11 is also known. (Commutative property of addition.) To add 2 + 6 + 4, the second two numbers can be added to make a ten, so 2 + 6 + 4 = 2 + 10 = 12. (Associative property of addition.)
Understand subtraction as an unknown-addend problem. For example, subtract 10 – 8 by finding the number that makes 10 when added to 8.
Relate counting to addition and subtraction (e.g., by counting on 2 to add 2).
