Description
This set of flash cards uses the Dolch Second Grade Sight Word list. It has been broken down into five lists. Each set contains 9-10 words and has a unique pattern background. There are two recording sheet, one for writing the words that correspond to the given number and one for recording sentences (depending on what you want to do with the cards).
You’re working with a small group, the rest of your students are engaged in center activities. You glance over to your word work/sight word center, and you can see students diligently working on an activity but they do not remember what words they are working with? Ok, well I don’t know about you, but I did and I wanted a way to provide scaffolds for those children so they can learn and practice independently. The result? Talking Flash Cards!
Zig-Zag Set: very, sing, right, many, green, best, five, don't, tell, always
Diagonal Set: why, use, sleep, pull, off, because, does, gave, your
Plaid Set: both, found, fast, cold, made, their, goes, its, around
Polka Dot Set: write, which, these, read, been, before, first, or, wish
Stripes Set: buy, call, sit, us, those, work, would, upon, wash
Activities:
The cards function on three differentiated levels:
Talk Bubble Flash Cards – have the written word inside the Talk bubble with a QR code adjacent. When a student chooses a Talk Bubble card, two options are available:
1 – If they recognize the word, they can just read it, and write it on the correct number line.
2 – If they do not recognize the word, they can scan it with the QR scanner app on their device and they will hear the device, say, spell and say the word again.
Think Bubble Cards – have only the QR code on them. After students have mastered a set of Talk Bubble Cards, they can move onto the Think Bubble Cards from the same set. You can use Think Bubble cards as a self-administered spelling assessment in the form of a center activity or as a whole group write the room activity. The possibilities are endless!
This activity is great for independent practice as well as independent study. Students can move throughout the lists at their own pace!
