Description
Need a series of resources that will help you cover the Scientific Method? From the beginning concepts to the application of those concepts, these resources will help you fine-tune your students' understanding of this backbone of science!
This BUNDLE includes the following resources (designed mainly for grades 6-9):
❶ The eBook "The Scientific Method"- goes into great detail outlining, describing, and breaking down the components of the scientific method.
Illustrations and practical applications abound. Included are questions to test your student's comprehension (an answer key is provided). Additionally, there is a section on the Engineering Design process. In this section, students will be able to compare and contrast it with the scientific method.
❷ Penny -Water Drop Lab- This resource is a lab following the scientific method guidelines. Using easy-to-obtain materials, this lab is a digital lab activity (Google Sheets) and can be conducted in class or via long distance.
Students will form a hypothesis, gather, input, and analyze data, and draw conclusions. All while following the scientific method format.
❸ Virtual Pendulum Lab- This lab resource also follows the scientific method format. The only materials needed are a computer and an internet connection. Since this is a digital lab activity, it can be conducted in class or long distance.
After doing some research on pendulums, students will form a hypothesis, gather, input and analyze data, and draw conclusions.
The lab report also follows the scientific method format. Uses: for a unit on the scientific method or a unit on Energy, Gravity and/or Waves.
❹ Paper Helicopter Lab Activity- This lab resource is a great addition to your study or review of the scientific method.
Using readily available materials, this lab covers:
- designing & conducting experiments
- constructing a hypothesis and relating its importance to an investigation and design challenge
- identifying and solving a single design problem (which morphs into other design problems)
- gathering, recording, and analyzing data
- collaborating to collect data
- critiquing collected data
- collaborating and communicating information
- identifying independent and dependent variables
- identifying the importance of constants (control variables)
❺ Scientific Method & Engineering Lab Exercise Activity - Spaghetti Bridges
Spaghetti Bridges is an engaging, powerful, and simple scientific method AND engineering lab activity exercise. There are two lab exercises in this one package. With easy-to-get, or on-hand, supplies, your students can complete a science lab activity and then roll that into an engineering/STEM exercise.
In Part 1, students conduct a lab exercise to apply their understanding of the scientific method. Part 2 takes the same resources and follows up with engineering design and practice.
❻ Qualitative vs Quantitative Data review- This online internet review card activity, suitable for grades 5-8, is designed to help your student(s) review the concepts of qualitative and quantitative data. It can be used as a review and test preparation activity too.
This Boom Card internet activity covers the topic of qualitative and quantitative data. It can also be used as a test preparation activity or flash cards. The product and download instruction links are included in the document.
►This resource is suitable for distance learning and in-person classroom use with tablets, laptops, or other electronic devices.
