QR Critters: 2 & 3-Digit Subtraction {Thanksgiving}

This math activity is the perfect way to engage students, get them moving, and practice subtracting 2 and 3-digit numbers. A fun QR Code twist makes this even more popular :)

The QR Critters packet includes 24 cards, 6 QR Code cards, 2 student work pages and a corresponding answer key.

Each card features a unique monster, number, and a 2-digit subtraction problem written either "stacked" or horizontally.

Set these cards up around the class for an all-class scavenger hunt or use them in centers as flash cards. Students will find the matching monster and number on their work page, copy down the subtraction problem, and solve.

Their last assignment is to *add* up all of the 2 and 3-digit numbers in the row to find the final sum. This practices adding 4 addends as well! Students can check their work for this by scanning the QR Code card. This will send them to a text link that will show the problem and answer {ex: 67+99+61+97=324}. This way, they can check each problem in the row as well as the larger addition problem.

You can also use these as a math center or for fast finishers.

Addresses the following 2nd, 3rd & 4th Grade CCSS:
- CCSS.Math.Content.2.NBT.B.5 Fluently add and subtract within 100 using strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction.
- CCSS.Math.Content.3.NBT.A.2 Fluently add and subtract within 1000 using strategies and algorithms based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction.
- CCSS.Math.Content.4.NBT.B.4 Fluently add and subtract multi-digit whole numbers using the standard algorithm.
