Description

In this lesson, students will learn about Emily Dickinson, her life of seclusion, and analyze how the life she chose to live affected her poetry. Students will pick apart and analyze, in depth, the poem "Hope is the Thing with Feathers" interpreting each line in each stanza and identify the symbolism within. Discussion of this poem includes a variety of Level 3 (strategic thinking), and Level 4 (extended thinking) Depth of Knowledge questioning stems. Students will gain an understanding of figurative language as opposed to literal language.
