What educators are saying

I used this as an early-finishers review activity for the skill. The games are high-interest and my students got a lot of practice out of it. Thanks!
My students loved this tool for doing word work in our small group 4th and 5 th struggling learners

Description

Fun with word parts and morphemes? Yes! This word work game will get your students learning and practicing vocabulary, phonics and linguistics while they are engaged in a fun activity!

Claim-A-Word is a two player word building game where students compete to create words using as many word parts as possible.

This fun activity helps students improve reading and writing skills by working on:

- vocabulary

- phonics

- spelling

- morphemes

- root words

- prefixes

- suffixes

- common word families

- rhymes

Differentiate by assigning sheets so students work on specific language elements. The game has a high replay value as there are so many words that can be made with each sheet.

An answer sheet with many of the possible words have been included for each Claim-A-Word sheet. Extra space has been provided to add any more words players can make without using the stars.

A blank template is provided with this resource so the educator can create their own sheets. You can print and simply write in the word parts and make copies or you can add the word parts using software like Powerpoint or Google Slides.

A Google Slides demonstration with animations is provided, great for visual learners.
