What educators are saying
Description
This is the first volume in a series of Paraprofessional Trainings designed for paraprofessionals by a paraprofessional.
When I started working in my district in 2012 I quickly realized that I would need to monopolize all of the hands-on training I could get to do my best in my role. I started with elementary students, then moved to the High School with students with severe disabilities and had to learn all over again. When I moved to the Junior High age group in a behavior centered role I had to relearn everything all over again.
Over the last 5 years I've helped dozens of paraprofessionals to improve their skills in working with students across all ability levels by using these same techniques.
Volume 1 contains an overview of what special education accommodations are, as well as explains in it's most basic terms what Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) and Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) are. It then covers the most commonly experienced situations that paras will encounter from the beginning - How to Support the Classroom Teacher, Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) Support, Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) and Generally Defiant Behaviors, as well as Supporting Students with Anxiety and Depression.
Conveniently packaged in a volumed set, you can present all of the skills in Volume 1 together in a longer PD session (approximately 30-45 minutes with discussion), or break it down to "bite-sized PD" that can be covered in 10-15 minutes including a discussion. It's designed to function well either as a group presentation or studied individually. Please keep in mind, if you'll be using this outside of a single classroom, you'll need to purchase an additional license for each additional classroom.
Happy training!
