Description

A royalty free one-act play for middle and high school students by award-winning playwright Kendra Thomas. Once the script is purchased, it may be copied and used freely.

As Minnie Freeman, a young schoolteacher, begins her duties in a one-room schoolhouse on the Nebraska plains in 1888, she finds herself grappling with a sense of longing for something more than the ordinary life she leads. Minnie yearns to break free from the constraints of her societal roles and make a meaningful impact on the world. Amidst this internal struggle, a fierce snowstorm descends upon the plains, threatening the safety of Minnie and her students. In a display of courage and resilience, Minnie takes charge, leading her students out of the vulnerable schoolhouse and into the treacherous blizzard in search of shelter. Inspired by her experiences during the storm, Minnie embarks on a journey of self-discovery, determined to make a difference in the world beyond the confines of the schoolhouse. This fictionalized account of Minnie Freeman celebrates her journey and reminds us that ordinary people can do extraordinary things.
