Description

This 13 slide power point presentation looks at implicit (implied) messages that can be found in Disney movies.

The file looks at gender roles, male and female ideals of beauty, sexuality, and representations of good and evil.

In my grade 12 media unit I focus on various implied messages that can be present in a variety of media. My intention is not to bash Disney, but to make students conscious of potential messages and to be aware of the possible impact they could have on viewers.

Student engagement is high because of the topic and because of the ingrained notion that Disney is innocent and somehow exempt from normal human failings like bias, predjudice, and stereotype. Some eat it up, some are resistant, but it is always a lively and good-natured debate!

I use the power point in conjunction with a Youtube video "Disney Affects on Society"(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsy3BblcjCA)

Certain slides have an astrix in the title and time codes in the notes section. This indicates the corresponding segment in the video to be shown after discussing the slide.
