Description

Objective: SWBAT analyze images in the media for the presence of racial stereotypes in order to synthesize findings and evaluate the impact of stereotypes on society.

After a 1 week study on racial stereotypes in the media and media literacy, have students complete this independent project where they create interview questions, interview a community member, and analyze instances of racial stereotyping in different forms of media.

Students will appreciate the independent nature of this assignment and the ability to incorporate their own experiences with film/print/TV media into the classroom in a meaningful way.

This product could also be easily tweaked to serve as a research project for other areas of media literacy, including gender bias and violence in the media.
