Literary Device Analysis Lecture using The Pearl
That Lit Lady

Description
I created this lesson and handouts using power point so that it is all in one place and can be easily manipulated. We were reviewing literary devices (metaphor, simile, personification, alliteration, animal imagery, and sensory details). Then we found examples of these devices in previous literary examples. For their independent practice, they were to find the literary devices in the novel, The Pearl, that we were currently reading in class. Students used "white boards" (white card stock inside a sheet protector) for checking for understanding responses throughout the lesson. If you are familiar with RISE/TESS, this is a lesson based on their practices. It was a full class period lesson that proved to be highly effective. My students still know and use these steps today and they get excited when they find examples of figurative language.
