Description
In this mini-unit, students will be studying relationships in ecosystems. In particular, we will be looking at how populations grow, factors that limit populations, and the patterns those create in nature. We will be starting an experiment in this unit that will get students outside and will have to be carried out over the spring. This unit is perfect for students who are still in a distance learning situation. Many of these lessons can stretch over several days and all of these lessons are designed to be done independently. For teachers struggling with coming up with successful units that can motivate distance learning students to complete science experiments, this unit can certainly help you.

Emphasis is on quantitative analysis and comparison of the relationships among interdependent factors including boundaries, resources, climate, and competition. Examples of mathematical comparisons could include graphs, charts, histograms, and population changes gathered from simulations or historical data sets. Assessment does not include deriving mathematical equations to make comparisons.
