Description

This three page reading activity includes an excerpt from an oral history source, detailing his experiences during Cherokee Removal. It is an emotionally challenging but also very compelling story, which my students like to read after we discuss Indian Removal and the presidency of Andrew Jackson. Students read and answer questions, leading to a larger class discussion on the effects of Indian Removal.

Note: It's important to:

1. Make sure the students are ready to read this. Please don't just give it to them without explanation.

2. Discuss the content afterwards to help students process. Make sure to also explain that Cherokees do live on and have many successful stories today.
