What educators are saying

I'm using this for an intensive non-fiction project my AP Lang kids are completing. I love not having to start from scratch!
Excellent, excellent resource! This has really helped me explain my requirements and make sure all my bases were covered.

Description

Wanting to mix up the traditional book report format? These Independent Reading Project options do just that! With the variety of options available you can mix and match so that students have a reading project tailored to fit the needs of your classroom.

What’s Included:

  • 5 fully editable versions of the Independent Reading Project
    • Options include reading log entries using literary terms, a scene rewrite, response entries and personal opinions, AP essay prompts, and novel analysis prompts.
  • Book Check In Log – fully editable!
    • A checklist for teachers to check in on student progress toward completing the reading of their Independent Reading novel.
  • Permission Slip – fully editable!
    • Use this form to ensure that parents, teacher, and student agree on an appropriate novel for this project.
  • Novel Approval Form – fully editable!
    • A checklist for teachers to keep track of who is reading what, and that students have submitted a permission slip signed by their parents.
  • Reading Rate & Goals – fully editable!
    • Students often struggle in setting reading goals, but this form makes it a simple mathematical problem for them to figure out how much time they will need to allow themselves to read.
  • Literary Terms & Devices – fully editable!
    • A PowerPoint with definitions of 30+ Literary Terms & Devices, and a notes page for students to fill out definitions. Students can then use these notes and slides to complete their Independent Reading Project.

This project is adaptable to any high school grade level class with appropriate scaffolding. All documents are fully editable, enabling students to complete both a “fill in the answer” section on literature themes, as well as in-depth reading response entries to get them thinking!
