Description
This unit plan focuses on the type of problem that engages students, promotes international mindedness, and encourages interdisciplinary collaboration. The Art of Dumpster Diving is an International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program Level 4-5 unit that is appropriate for either a Science or a Design class. It focuses on the problem of eWaste and gives the students the opportunity to not only learn how their black box technology works, but also the opportunity to study it's global impact. This unit could very easily become an interdisciplinary unit. It includes a full set of lesson plans from the Science perspective and the Design perspective. Every assignment is included and is complete with task specific rubrics that utilize the MYP criteria. This unit is also written so that it covers the NGSS standards that are used in many school districts in the United States. Lastly, this unit contains a mini-unit at the end that helps the students turn their work into a Science Fair project if they so choose.
