Guess My Job Event- Guidebook and Lessons

Exposing students to people who do different jobs broadens their horizons and increases their social capital.

What is a "Guess My Job" event?

This event is designed to expose students to a range of people who do different jobs. Panelists are asked "yes" or "no" questions by students about their job. Once students have had a chance to guess their job, the panelists leave the stage and get dressed into their uniform or pull out any tools of the trade. They return and then share what they do for a living.

Panelists then set up a table with items highlighting their work. Students can visit each speaker at their table to learn more. The event schedule is designed for four classes (approx. 120 students).

I've been a passionate Career educator for over ten years, working with students from K-12. I lead an elementary and middle school Career Education department that serves thousands of students in beautiful Victoria, BC, Canada.

The newest career education research backs these lessons and activities and is proven to make a difference in students' lives, especially for priority and disadvantaged students.

I have designed this Guess My Job event to create opportunities to broaden students' aspirations, challenge gender stereotypes and increase students' motivation at school. *The program was inspired by our friends at the UK charity Educators and Employers and their "Guess My Line" program.
