An Escape Room event in the elementary classroom is a great way to practice so many skills. This one includes determining genre, identifying forms of figurative language, placing names in ABC order, and determining character, plot, or summary. Students don’t even realize they are practicing!
NOTE: The tasks in this Escape Room have parts that refer to children's books and/or characters.
What is the Escape?
- This event is called Escape the Library.
- Students will complete 4 tasks.
- Each task will lead to an answer- either a number, symbols, or words.
- When the answer is shown to you, students have unlocked that task and will be awarded by having a spot on the team's Library Card marked or punched.
- After getting through the last task the team has escaped the Library.
➡️ Why the Library?
The scenario for students: They are inside the library and must help the librarian with four tasks in order to leave. The team has a Library Card that must have four punches (or marks) made to unlock each task.
Tasks that must be completed are:
- For the first task, students determine if a statement identifies a character, the plot, or the setting.
- For the second task, students read a sentence/paragraph and determine the genre being described.
