What educators are saying

My campus required a safe place in the classroom this year. This packet made it an easy item to check off. It's very cute and goes with my retro classroom theme. Thanks!

Description

UPDATED ON 1/23/19: New update has EDITABLE Signs and Exit Slips if you do not wish to call this space a "Peace Corner". You can change the titles to say "Cool Down Corner" or "Take a Break Spot" for example.

This is a .ZIP file which includes everything you need (aside from physical objects) to start up your own Peace Corner, Calm Down Corner, Cool Down Corner, or Take a Break spot in your own classroom for your students to self-reflection and cool themselves down when they get very angry or upset!

Included: Editable labels and signs, pre-made labels and signs, differentiated reflection sheets for K-5, an Emoji feelings poster, and Cool Down Strategy Cards. YOU MUST HAVE POWERPOINT TO BE ABLE TO USE THE EDITABLE FILES.

A Peace Corner (or a Cool Down Corner, Calm Down Corner, Take a Break Spot, etc.) acts as a "safe haven" for your students who may feel very upset, frustrated, or scared, and cannot focus on their learning. During this short visit, your students will be able to identify their emotions, select Cool Down strategies, and reflect on their feelings and the situation occuring. This is a great outlet for teaching emotional self-regulation and allows students to "tattle" less about minor problems that can be solved through a visit to the Peace Corner.

I tell my students that if they do not feel better after trying two strategies and after the timer is up in 5 minutes, then it is a problem they can come tell me about. So far I have not had any students have to come up to me after visiting the Peace Corner. I have usually had an average of 5 students visit the area a day. They typically will be done after about 5 minutes and, in my opinion, 5 minutes spent learning about social-emotional growth is 5 minutes well spent (and can be afforded). :)

Tag me in pictures of your Peace Corners!!! I would LOVE to see them! :) @LiveLoveandTeach
