What educators are saying

I have tried various scavenger hunts, this was one of the better ones. It's well done, and requires students to really dig into the Declaration of Independence.
This was a great resource to use with my students. Everyone was engaged and it saved me a lot of planning time. Thank you!

Learning Objective

Students will learn the purpose and rationale behind the Declaration of Independence in the buildup to the American Revolutionary War.

Description

In this Declaration of Independence primary source resource for the American Revolution, students complete an engaging scavenger hunt activity to understand the Declaration of Independence. Students work in teams or individually (I'd recommend teams in middle school) to complete this Declaration of Independence activity. There are 32 questions that students will be responsible for hunting down. There are two versions in this purchase to easily allow for differentiation: one provides questions in the order they are in the document and the other is more randomized. You will need to use a copy of the Declaration of Independence - our textbook works perfectly and yours will too!

This resource includes a paper in-class version and a 1:1 Google compatible version to be used in conjunction with Google Classroom. Just follow the included instructions for how to access the Google version, then share the resource through Google or assign via Google Classroom. This will allow students to type directly into the document!

This works best as an introduction to the Declaration!

Enjoy!

This Declaration of Independence lesson is included in the two larger bundles to save you big: it is part of my Causes of the American Revolution Unit as well as the Declaration of Independence Bundle.
