Description

“La Ciguapa” is a cultural lesson plan about the spooky legend of La Ciguapa from the Dominican Republic. She is a nocturnal spirit who preys on those who stray into the woods at night. Your students will be fascinated by this creepy folktale and all of the strange characteristics of La Ciguapa!

This lesson will help your students to grapple with and comprehend an unfamiliar reading in the target language. You have the option to engage students in an activity that requires them to justify claims about the reading with supporting evidence from the article. Then, students will speak in groups about spooky folklore in Spanish! The lesson wraps up with a written exit ticket in which they will synthesize their learning in Spanish.

This is perfect as a stand-alone cultural lesson plan, emergency substitute plan, or an enrichment lesson in a larger unit of study about legends or folklore.
