Unit Learning Target: I explain what it means to be created in God’s image.

Essential Question: How does being made in God’s image make us special?

Catholic educators know that religious instruction is not solely education, but also formation. Rather than the transference of knowledge, it is the transformation of the heart. Religious instruction aims to not only deepen student understanding of their faith, but also help form and develop them into disciples of Christ. It is therefore crucial that the instruction we provide is solid in both doctrine and research based pedagogy.

This product was therefore purposefully designed to take into consideration both the research behind effective religious instruction and the Church’s push for engagement. It is my hope that it will support teachers in providing meaningful religious instruction for their students about the organization of the Church.

This three part lesson, includes resources and activities for teachers to promote and deepen student understanding of their faith by incorporating a variety of learning methods and strategies. Grounded in essential questions and mastery objectives and concluded with a task based assessment, students will have a chance to read, write, explore, create, pray and reflect on the teachings of the Church.

The integration of literacy, art and technology further promotes a chance for students to engage with the content in ways that encourage a hands-on-approach to their formation.
