Why Should You Use Book Studies in Your Classroom?
- Book studies are a great way to study high-quality children’s books during your reading and writing instructional time.
- They are excellent for differentiating! Students who need enrichment can read higher-level books, while students needing intervention can read lower-level books.
Which Books Should Your Students Study?
- Students should study books they are able to read independently but are not too easy for them.
- You can look at award lists to get ideas for books that have been recognized for their excellence.
How Can You Use Book Studies in Your Classroom?
- Make sure each student has a copy of the book. You can do whole-class book studies or have several groups of students studying different books, depending on their interest and reading level.
- Assign a section of the book for the students to read independently in class or for homework.
- Discuss it with them and have them complete the literacy activities and assessments.
