Why Should You Use Book Studies in Your Classroom?

    • Book studies are a great way to study high-quality children’s books during your reading and writing instructional time.
    • They are excellent for differentiating! Students who need enrichment can read higher-level books, while students needing intervention can read lower-level books.

Which Books Should Your Students Study?

    • Students should study books they are able to read independently but are not too easy for them.
    • You can look at award lists to get ideas for books that have been recognized for their excellence.

How Can You Use Book Studies in Your Classroom?

    • Make sure each student has a copy of the book. You can do whole-class book studies or have several groups of students studying different books, depending on their interest and reading level.
    • Assign a section of the book for the students to read independently in class or for homework.
    • Discuss it with them and have them complete the literacy activities and assessments.

    • Make sure each student has a copy of the book.
    • Assign a section of the book for the students to read independently.
    • Discuss it with them and have them complete the literacy activities and assessments digitally.
