Description

Your classes have been studying gravity, mass, and weight. Now you are ready to give students a hands-on lab activity as a follow-up to your discussions. Enter the Acceleration of Gravity Lab Activity!

This acceleration of gravity lab activity will reinforce your talks about Earth's gravitational rate on free-falling objects. Using simple and readily accessible equipment, students will construct a pendulum and use the period of the pendulum to calculate Earth's gravitational acceleration accurately.

What’s inside…

✅ 2 pages for student w/ detailed instructions, diagrams, and equation + follow-up question

✅ teacher notes

✅ printable protractor (if you lack one)

How it works - Students will…

  1. construct a pendulum
  2. perform multiple trials
  3. determine the period of the pendulum
  4. using the data and a formula calculate the acceleration of Earth's Gravity
  5. follow up the investigation with guided questions to ensure understanding

Uses:

✦ lesson follow-up, review, or checkup

✦ a unit lab or part of a unit lab series

✦ assessment activity

✦ simple & fun science activity
