Description

These six prompts on William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream are challenging, thoughtful, and varied.

Topics include:

  • The two distinct worlds portrayed in the play (compare/contrast)
  • The role of music, song, and dance and how characters engage with them
  • Examining either Theseus or Demetrius as a dynamic character
  • The importance of acting, playing a part, or witnessing a play
  • Patterns of imagery used in the play
  • The importance of friendship and how friendships are portrayed

Upon completion of the play, you can choose to assign a process piece and give students a choice from the six prompts. One page has all six prompts listed.

Or, if you would like to use these prompts for an in-class essay, each prompt is also included on its own page for use in class. An additional lined page is included so you can double side each prompt sheet.

A literary analysis rubric is included (four-point scale), with an area for score and comments.

This will provide an excellent final assessment on A Midsummer Night's Dream
