Introduction to black history month
This flipchart is one I use to introduce the concept/idea of black history month to my students. It begins with a song about Martin Luther King, then has picture examples of the words past and present to help my kids understand what we mean when we say the "past". Then there are pages of examples of black athletes, musicians, actors, etc. At the end there is a video "black history alphabet" I hope this simplified way of introducing black history helps your class as much as it helped mine.

The Case of the Missing Pumpkin - Positional Words on the Activboard
This is a great intro/mini lesson for positional words. It's engaging and the kids love it. There are 9 different clues where the kids highlight the positional word and then move the magnifying glass (with magic reveal) to see if they can find where the pumpkin is hiding.
The positional clues are:
-under
-next to
-above
-near
-beneath
-in between
-inside
-to the left of
-to the right of
We follow this up with a class book. Each child makes a page with a die cut pumpkin. They draw a picture

This is an introduction to Native Americans. My attempt was to make it as politically correct as possible. There are not many opportunities for students to interact with the board for this lesson. It is designed as a teacher-directed introduction.

Word of the Day Handwriting with ActivInspire!

I see Colors
Your students will love this activity in learning their colors as well as the color words. One page per color, gives them the chance to "read" the sentence and then look around them and think of other things that are that color. Write those things right on the flip chart. This makes learning fun!
