This is the third in a series of power points designed to improve skills in inferring and writing. The lessons use pictures and information about our dog to make the task more interesting for both students and teachers. As a speech-language pathologist, I find that getting my students to infer and generate their own ideas is very challenging. However, when they are positively engaged, the task becomes easier.

What is Makayla Thinking Part 5
In this lesson, we look at our dog Makayla's sleeping habits. Students consider how a history of neglect could affect where she likes to sleep. They are encouraged to research the sleeping habits of wolves and puppies to further support a preference for being with others. Inference skills and writing are emphasized.

What is Makayla Thinking Part 4
This is the fourth installment in the series. We see Makayla begging for food from her dad. Students are asked to infer what both Makayla and her dad are thinking. Then students are asked to write using follow up questions an encouraged to research healthy eating habits for dogs.
