I think this project would be a great addition to your health curriculum, and I highly recommend that you give it a try.
Tobacco Prevention R.A.F.T. lesson plan
This is a lesson that I created to teach my students about the harmful effects of tobacco. I created a "lung" organizer for students to record information and facts that could be helpful in persuading someone from using tobacco products. This could be utilized with a science / health textbook, a power point, or any other resource you may have.
Students will then take the factual information that they have created and write a R.A.F.T. The students role will be to pretend that they are a lung.
Procedural Writing: Hand Washing Activity
This package breaks down procedural writing for a junior or intermediate student by stated the characteristics and requirements of a procedural text as well as providing a procedure to wash your hands effectively as an example. In this collection, the educator will be provided with a rubric, worksheet, and checklist of level 4 procedural writing. Excellent source for a diagnostic assessment piece when starting the unit or when very early into the unit.
