Check Me Out is the new way to date...books! This is a short interactive activity meant to mirror online dating experiences and promote the 2020-2021 Abraham Lincoln Reading List. The platform used is Google Slides. Students click through "book profiles" to find one or more books they are interested in. This is great for gathering information for research reports. The “purpose” is whatever category they need to find out about. They may have 3-4 different grids depending on the research paper requirements. For younger students, have a huge one laminated and use a dry erase marker and use it in shared writing when reading a nonfiction big book.

Motivating Middle School Readers with a Read-A-Thon!

This year, my school had a couple family reading nights. It was wildly successful amongst our 3rd and 4th grade . . . but my building is 3rd- 6th. I felt disappointed that our 5th and 6th graders were so turned off by our game-filled-song-singing-run-around-playing reading night!
