Ten Superstitions
Students will learn the history behind 10 common superstitions including: Friday the 13th, itchy palms, ladders, umbrellas, mirrors, horseshoes, tossing salt, knocking on wood, saying "Bless you" and black cats.
Students can take a quick assessment to test their comprehension.
This could be used to jump-start research on Superstitions as well.

Sports Athlete Legacy Essay/Project
Students can take ownership in their learning with this project. Students will choose an athlete, conduct research, form and opinion, and choose between writing an essay or creating a slide presentation. Students will form an opinion on their chosen athlete's legacy or impact they made on the world. This can be done individually, with partners, or even small groups.

4th - 6th
Current Event: summary and opinion with rubric
This is a weekly assignment I give to 4-5 fifth graders a week. This assignment asks the student to find a news story that interests them. They will read it, take notes about it, form an opinion about it, write a 1 paragraph summary, and 1 paragraph opinion about it. The student then presents their work by reading their summary and opinion, and then leading a class discussion about the article.
This is an incredibly fun and enriching assignment that my kids LOVE to do!
