Students research William Ernest Henley's life and Nelson Mandela's life and draw comparisons and conclusions after reading "Invictus." In addition, students apply the poem's message to their own lives.I used this as first day activity in an English 10 classroom. I revisited this poem the last week of the school year. In student surveys, they said this was one of their favorite texts they read.
