Food Chain and Area Math Task
This 5 part math task uses science and math standards (Great for STEM!). The students first have to analyze a food chain and then find the area of a "forest" by tiling. After that, they use the food chain scenario to determine how many of each species would be in EACH square unit of the forest. They then get different scenarios (a farmer adds more bushes to each square unit, etc.) and are asked to do the math. Animal Enclosure Area Project
This activity is great for independent work or partner/group work to assess understanding of AREA as well as animal adaptations. The integration of both math and science concepts is the focus of this lesson and students use what they know about each concept to complete the small project. Teachers may need to do a little bit of prep before the activity depending on which option you chose.
