This unit is a blast with middle school students! Throughout the unit, learn about the history of jingles through familiar examples. Explore how jingle writing changed over the years with technology, and other methods the music industry uses to advertise products. Summarize the unit by having students try their own hand at writing their own short jingle. Mathematics can be fun! "This Tune" uses math and melody and rhythm to help the teacher learn students names quickly as well as aiding the students to learn their classmates names.
The five beat pattern can be physically represented by dividing the 5 beat measures into Knees (beat 1), Clap (beat 2), Snap (beat 3), knees (beat 4) and Clap (beat 5). Based on an old "call and response" folk song, children can immediately participate by singing the response of "oh yeah" after every line. A beautiful, simple traditional folk song about misty, rainy days. This is a "zipper" song, where children add their ideas about what they see getting rained on.
