Latin Ablatives Flow Chart for Identifying Ablative Uses

So many ablatives to keep track of! So many overlapping characteristics! If only there were a process! Now there is. Use this flow chart to make concrete the necessary analysis for identifying ablatives. Divided between those with prepositions and those without, the flow chart takes users through a series of questions or clues that identify ablatives. It of course is not comprehensive nor foolproof (nor is it intended to be) but gives users a basic framework and process for working with ablative

Rome Family Tree (Includes Aeneas, Romulus, and Remus)

Do your students struggle to connect the myths surrounding the founding of Rome? I teach Ancient History to 7th grade and when we had gotten to the founding of Rome in the 3rd quarter of the school year, my students had already read Virgil's Aeneid in their Ancient Literature class and translated the myth about Romulus and Remus in their Latin class. So, when I asked them if they knew anything about the founding of Rome, they were confused. I created this family tree to show my students how the

Greek and Latin Greek Root Word Hunt

I use this activity during my Daily 5 "Word Work" group. Students are given a "Root of the Week"... for example, prefix un-. Students will then fill in the date, root, meaning, and draw a picture that will help them remember what the meaning of the root is. After they've completed this portion, they will brainstorm with their small group words that go with this root. Once they have decided on which three words they would like to use, they will list them. Then they will each get a diction

I mounted them on construction paper with the active voice on the front and the passive voice on the back, but feel free to use as you see fit!

Students remember what they write with their own hand. Use this chart when teaching all 6 Latin infinitives. The chart at the bottom is used for the sequence of tenses used with infinitives in indirect statement. Use this chart to teach, then assess with it as well. I have my students write "INFINITIVES TAKE ACCUSATIVE SUBJECTS" between the two charts. Hopefully this handout will make this tough concept a little easier.
