Toby and the Accident by Annette Smith is a leveled reader great for guided reading work. This 2 page worksheet includes work on comprehension, blends, adverbs, creating rhyming words, and determining correct meaning of words using context clues.
While working with students during guided reading, your students could be reading The Hailstorm by Jenny Giles, and then working on such skills as compound words, comparisons, adding /er/ to words, and adjectives.
The Seat Belt Song written by Jenny Giles and illustrated by Rachel Tonkin is a great resource for small group reading. My worksheet will allow your students to brainstorm safety measures they use in particular situations. They will also be working on creating the past tense of particular vocabulary words in the story.
This has been a great tool in teaching my students that "root words" are words that can "grow" lots of new words. The students can see how the words can be new words, by simply adding an ending (i.e.:
-ing,-ed,-s, etc.)

This document includes a passage, comprehension questions, and an activity to graph the suffixes. All of these activities should help your students become more familiar with derivatives.
This is all of the standards for reading and math for 1st grade. I use this to track when I have taught the standard by recording the date in the box. It is easier than trying to use our standards calendar to track when a standard has been taught.
Invite students to listen and fill in each blank with the missing words. Feel free to edit the word document and add new questions other than passive voice!
