Argumentation - Which Shape Doesn't Belong and Why?
Students will be developing high levels of reasoning while deepening their thinking abilities as they engage in this learning task.
Teachers can project a page on the board or screen and model with her students how she/he would think through the task process. First, state the question out loud. Second, analyze the pictures and collect evidence about the shapes in question. Third, make a claim about the data. Finally, state the reasoning used to make the claim.

Shapes Sorting with Snacks
This is a fun and interactive addition to any unit on shapes! Students will sort the different types of food by shape then if you want to take it step further they can then sort by 2D versus 3D shapes. At the end they get to eat the shapes!
You can use any food you want but here is the list I use:

Additionally, college students have been using Mr. Potato Head in their medical school studies.
