This is a 16 day hands on unit taught to a deeper level of understanding hinged on conceptual understanding. This unit includes the SMART Notebook file which has 132 pages; many of which have pieces to be manipulated, guided notes for all lessons, homework pages for all lessons, exit tickets for all lessons, a mid unit preparation and final unit preparation document as well as the mid-unit assessment and final unit assessment.
The entire unit is tied to the Common Core Learning Standards.

Comparing Fractions on a Number Line - CCLS
This is a SMARTboard lesson using a comparing fractions strategy used in the NY State Grade 3 CC Math Module 5. Students find two different fractions on number lines and then compare where they fall on that number line.
Grade 3 Math Module 5 Topic F
This is the last 3 lessons of Module 5. Students will work on comparing fraction pieces. I enjoyed teaching these lessons due to the rich vocabulary. Students worked on the meaning of doubling and how it applies to whole numbers and compared it to how it applies to fractional pieces. There were many 'ah ha!" moments!
