Practicing Restating the Question in Answers
In my classroom, we use R.A.C.E. to answer questions - R = Restate the question, A = Answer the question, C = Cite the evidence from the text, E = Explain or Elaborate. (G can be substituted for C to spell RAGE, where G = Give an example from the text. Maybe more appropriate for younger grades.)

To help teach this concept better, I started looking around for graphic organizers and found out that they are really hard to find. So, I created my own.
The first copy is what I used in class this week, but if I could have gone back and tweaked it for my kids I would have made the text boxes larger so that they could use sticky notes. I made that for you.

Peer-Revising Checklist
There are so many revising checklists out there--and most of them confuse or intermingle revising with editing. I use this peer-revising checklist with my students as they critique one another's long composition essays. It is detailed, but I feel includes all the essential elements to create an effective essay. Using the checklist takes a little teaching, but once the students are comfortable with it, they then have some guidelines when they look over eachother's writing!
