This is a short project aimed at rates and proportions (scales) at the 6-7th grade level. Students can briefly research what the James Webb Telescope is and key facts, calculate the average cost per year to develop and maintain, and then create a scale diagram of the sun, earth, and telescope. Bonus to figure out how far away the Southern Ring Nebula is on this scale: 2,000 light years! (It would take over 210 million pieces of paper at this scale where the sun and Earth fit on 2 sheets!)
