Mary Shelley’s rich, layered writing and her novel about fragmentation, dissolution, and reconstruction naturally lend itself to this assignment which focuses on the in depth analysis of one “Vital Passage” from the novel and this passage’s relation to the work as a whole.
This assignment can be used as the final assessment for a Frankenstein unit or as a take-home complement to an exam. The assignment and peer feedback sheets are detailed, breaking down the assignments to help students think

Paraphrasing Shakespeare Competition
I used this at the beginning of the unit to get students used to the language of the play. I had students work either with a partner or individually to see how many of these they could figure out. It also gives them practice paraphrasing.
