In 'Australia - Australian Society Through The Lens of Mainstream Media' students consider the role media plays in shaping cultural identity by engaging with a Powerpoint presentation designed to challenge the significance of Australian stereotypes.
The product includes:
* 25 slides (images) and embedded video footage of Australian stereotypes
* Captions and questions designed to provoke discussion.

Students select an island, state, or territory in the area, research that location, and create a commercial to attract tourists. Can be done using technology (iPads or computers) or with a good old posterboard! I have also included the notes I required them to take in outlining their commercial.
[You could expand this project to include all of Oceania but I found that many of the islands were difficult for middle schoolers to research in a short amount of time.]
