This resource helps your students create 8- and 16-beat phrase using Do Re and Mi with quarter notes, paired eighth notes, and quarter rests. I have color coordinated the notes to match C, D, and E for boomwhackers. The “infinite cloner” makes it easy to write whatever melody students want and then perform it with ease!

Bow Wow Wow: Rhythmic Notation and So-Mi
Using the traditional song "Bow Wow Wow", students drag dogs holding quarter note bones, eighth note bones or quarter rest bones above the lyrics of the song. On the following page, students create their own So-Mi melody for "Bow Wow Wow" on a two line music staff.

Solfege 1" Dots
These colorful solfege dots are great to use in your classroom. The colors correspond with the boomwhacker colors for do, re, mi, fa, so, la, and ti. You can find many ways to use these dots. I find that 1 inch was the perfect size to use with a 1" hole puncher. I glue them on to bottle caps and use as a manipulative for student stations or glue them on to magnets to use up on the white board. These dots can be printed and laminated for your convenience. This activity allows pre-K to 1st grade students to create 4 beat patterns using 1 or 2 syllable words. Students analyze 'halloween' themed words (if your school does not allow Halloween activities, simply remove the first 2 slides) and use them to compose unique 4 beat patterns.
