GUMBALL SIGHT WORD PROGRESS TRACKER | 3rd HUNDRED FRY WORDS

Progress monitoring sight words can be a disorganized mess without a solid system, and explaining to primary students just how much they've grown can be so abstract! I came up with my Gumball Reader system inspired by a mentor teacher of mine that used gumball machines to track book reports. It lit a FIRE in her students to earn those gumballs and see their machines on the walls fill up. I became a first grade teacher and wanted to keep the theme of gumballs, so I put it to use with SIGHT WORDS!

I have taken Jan Richardson's guided reading sight words and turned them into rainbow words. This is a great incentive for the kids to learn how to read and write their sight words. If they finish all the red (level A) words then they get a red strip for their rainbow and so on.
