Sesere Eeye, traditional Torres Strait Islander song and dance lesson ideas
Sesere Eeye is a song and dance from the Torres Strait Islands. Sesere is a kingfisher, but most of the words are not actually from the Torres Strait Islands, but from other Pacific Islander groups, and this song emerged after European contact which brought the peoples together. This is a great song for limited range singing and recorder playing (drm) and for teaching the concept of meter changing.

Chant - Brand New Day
This simple chant can be done in pairs. Children stand and face each other. As they say the words they clap hands together, slap thighs and clap hands in rhythm to the poem. Teachers could do this on Assembly as a performance. Second time round children could have new partner.Suitable for Christian Schools and Catholic Schools.
